Root apex resection is a procedure intended to remove the unhealthy tip of the tooth root with the surrounding abnormal tissue, when endodontic treatment is no longer possible.
However, most often patients with inflammation of the root tip feel no pain, and come to specialists when inflammation becomes acute.
Symptoms:
- developed fistula;
- unresponsiveness to cold or heat;
- pain or a feeling of tightness in the area of inflammation.
The root apex resection involves the opening of a chronic infection source, which is cleaned, the root tip is cut off, and it is sealed with good quality.
If the cleaned focal bone cavity is large, it is recommended to fill it with the bone substitute.
This operation is applied when chronic inflammation cannot be treated otherwise.
Root apex resection is performed under local anaesthesia. The surgery is performed under local anaesthesia, so the patient does not feel any pain.
After surgery, the oral surgeon who performed the operation will prescribe antibiotics and painkillers that will have to be used as directed by your doctor, to ensure the proper healing process.
After surgery:
- You will feel mild discomfort;
- Slight bleeding is possible;
- Swelling;
- You should not chew food with the operated site;
- After 7-10 days you will have to remove sutures.
